Accessibility
This compendium is an educational reference written for the widest possible audience. It aims to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA and is built as plain, semantic HTML with no tracking scripts, no accounts and no stored health information.
Conformance status
The current build has been tested with the axe-core 4.10 automated ruleset for WCAG 2.2 A and AA across 17 page and viewport combinations: condition, herb, pattern, formula and acupoint detail pages, the galleries, search, the self-check, the home page and the guide pages. At the last run there were zero automated violations. Keyboard order, visible focus, skip links, the mobile menu, form labels, live result announcements and the self-check step announcements were also checked manually.
Automated testing cannot catch every barrier, and a screen-reader walkthrough with NVDA or VoiceOver is still planned. The statement will be updated when that pass is complete.
What is in place
- One main heading per page and a logical heading order.
- Landmarks and a skip link on every page; the main content is a focus target.
- Visible focus indicators on both light and dark surfaces, including the header.
- The mobile menu is a labelled button with an expanded state and Escape handling.
- Forms and filters have visible labels or accessible names; filter state is announced with pressed states.
- Result counts and the self-check results are announced through live regions.
- Charts and diagrams carry captions; decorative images do not repeat the caption in their alt text.
- Chinese terms carry language tags; the glossary explains recurring terminology.
- Reduced-motion preferences are respected, and pages have a print stylesheet.
- Text reflows at 320 CSS pixels and can be enlarged to 200 percent without loss of content.
Reference standard
Conformance is assessed against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 specification.
Known limitations
- A full screen-reader walkthrough with NVDA and VoiceOver is still to be completed.
- Some classical and historical quotations use long or old-fashioned sentence structures; the glossary explains the recurring terms.
- Wide comparison and composition tables scroll inside their own container at narrow widths.
- The self-check is a reading aid, not a diagnostic tool, and this is stated on the tool itself.
Feedback
If you meet a barrier on this site, the site owner would like to know. This is a static reference with no accounts or contact form; when the editorial pages are published, the contact route will be listed there and linked from this page.
For urgent health questions, do not wait for a reply: read when a skin problem needs urgent care and contact a clinician.
